Monitoring Compliance

Overseeing compliance

Organisations have a duty to monitor their compliance with their Welsh language duties. It is important that organisations have robust arrangements for self-regulation. The Commissioner's surveys have shown that those organisations that perform best have robust processes in place to monitor, verify and oversee compliance.

The Commissioner has published an advice document offering possible methods of monitoring and overseeing compliance. It also contains examples of good practices that have proven successful within some organisations.

Reporting on compliance

Public organisations must publish an annual report which explains how they have complied with the Welsh language standards, or their Welsh language scheme during the year.

Welsh language standards

rganisations that are subject to Welsh language standards must publish an annual report which presents the organisation's own evaluation of how it promotes and facilitates opportunities to use the Welsh language and ensure that the Welsh is treated no less favorably than English. The Commissioner has published an advice document on drawing up the annual Welsh language standards report.

Welsh Language Schemes

All organisations that operate a Welsh language scheme are committed to publishing a monitoring report annually. The report should include information on how the organisation has implemented its Welsh language scheme during the year, reporting on progress on any targets within the scheme's timetable. The report should also include an analysis of complaints that have been received during the year reporting on the number and nature of the complaints and the steps put in place to resolve any failures.
